Benefit Consultant (Hybrid)

Position Overview: The Benefit Consultant works in close partnership with the Benefit Analyst and Benefit Advocate to effectively service and renew a book of client business. Benefit Consultants develop strong rapport with clients to identify and present the best products and services to meet client needs and objectives, with cost containment, compliance, communication, and culture in mind. This position serves as the primary project manager and communication liaison with clients.

Work Arrangement: This is a full-time hybrid position reporting two days per week in our office located in Denver, CO.

Professional Responsibilities:

  • Continually nurture relationships and develop strong rapport with clients to serve as a trusted advisor for their employee benefit plan needs.
  • Assist clients in articulating their short and long-term objectives and develop a strategic plan to address those objectives through Intrepid products and services.
  • Address unusual or difficult client inquiries/situations via a personal consultative approach and demonstrate appropriate awareness to involve additional internal team members to ensure appropriate and timely resolution, as needed.
  • Serve as client's advocate with carriers, TPAs and vendors.
  • Educate clients on legislative changes and conduct compliance reviews with client to limit liability/exposure.
  • Build productive relationships with carriers and vendors.
  • Assess cross-selling opportunities with all clients. Seek to add value through recommending additional options for their benefits package including voluntary benefits. Work collaboratively with Benefit Analyst to discuss what lines should be quoted.
  • Provide training to client’s new HR personnel.
  • Conduct weekly team meetings with Benefit Analyst and Employee Advocate. Keep team informed regarding client issues, renewals, and proactive work. Seek to positively influence team members and mediate concerns. Offer encouragement and praise, promote engagement, and build good working relationships.
  • Strategically plan and execute plan renewals and drive the renewal timeline.
  • Conduct pre-renewal meetings with clients and anticipate concerns developing from the renewal process. Meet with the Benefit Analyst to discuss meeting findings.
  • Deliver renewal proposals to clients including analysis, benchmarking, and recommendations.
  • Prepare for client meetings by reviewing all presentation material thoroughly and ensure there are no errors.
  • Help to develop employee communication materials.
  • Conduct employee open enrollment meetings and/or webinars.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • 2 or more years of experience in sales, business development, or account management (required)
  • High School Diploma/GED (required)
  • Colorado Life and Health Insurance License (required)
  • Experience in the employee benefits industry (preferred)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a similar field (preferred)
  • Registered Employee Benefits Consultant (REBC) certification (preferred)
  • Possess a strong understanding of employee benefits, including knowledge of various benefit types, compliance with relevant regulations, and awareness of emerging trends and best practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey information clearly and transparently.
  • Familiarity and proficiency in using relevant software applications, including Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and other tools used for client management and communication.
  • Experience in building and maintaining strong client relationships, understanding clients’ unique needs, and providing customized insurance solutions.
  • Detailed-oriented and organized with excellent project management abilities.
  • Strong critical thinking skills to analyze complex scenarios and develop solutions for clients.
  • Commitment to staying updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices through attending training programs, earning relevant certifications, and participating in industry conferences or webinars.
  • Adhere to ethical standards and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive employee and client information.

Pay Range: $75,000 - $95,000 per year depending on experience.

*A wide salary range is posted for this position and any job offer is based upon a salary analysis to comply with the required state pay transparency law. The salary analysis considers relevant experience, education, certifications, and seniority as compared to others doing substantially similar work. There is no guarantee an offer will be at the top of the posted range based on the salary analysis.
