Position Overview: The Benefit Consultant is responsible for managing an assigned book of business supporting both small and large groups. This licensed position will use their broad industry knowledge and expertise to consult with clients to recommend products and services that meet their benefit strategies and financial goals. Oversees management of accounts including renewals, contract negotiations, customer service, vendor relations, and compliance support.

Work Arrangement: This is a full-time, remote position that supports our office located in Hudson, NY.

Professional Responsibilities:
The work you do will have an impact on our clients, your peers, and the overall success of the agency. Your contributions will include:

  • Manage assigned book of business for small/large groups including providing customer support, researching problems and providing sales support and product information.
  • Proficient in key features and benefits of all products, including technology systems and compliance support, to effectively service and manage book of business.
  • Maintain knowledge of competitor products and be able to speak to differences.
  • Consult with clients to identify products that meet their needs while identifying cross-sell/up-sell opportunities.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of all aspects of small/large group products including the renewal process.
  • Manage renewal process for small/large groups including gathering data requirements to shop manual/claims-based renewals, gather claims/census information and prepare renewal letters.
  • Provide high level support on matters associated with claims, contracts and healthcare reform. Partner with vendors, carriers and general agents to seek successful resolution.
  • Responsible for maintaining understanding of ERISA compliance. Provide compliance support including plan documents, and wrap documents.
  • Provide customer service including assessing clients’ needs and determining the correct method for resolving issues. Identify issues that need to be escalated to management.
  • Maintain notes and activity follow-ups for clients in CRM to ensure completion of all inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Work with team to identify and execute improvements within products, services and customer service processes.
  • Provide product expertise support and assist with day-to-day client and staff questions.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Associates degree or equivalent work experience
  • Must have current and active resident state & non-resident insurance licenses
  • Strong account management skills with group renewal experience for small and large groups
  • Full comprehension of industry laws, regulations and best practices
  • Strong customer service skills with ability to build strong client relationships
  • Strong computer skills and ability to obtain proficiency in agency systems
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, One Note, Share Point)
  • Ability to work independently at home and maintain adequate internet and phone service
  • Experience with Zywave, Zen Desk, Quoting System, Vonage and Carrier Systems a plus

Pay Range: $60,000 - $70,000 depending on experience

A wide salary range is posted for this position and any job offer is based upon a salary analysis to comply with the required state pay transparency law. The salary analysis considers relevant experience, education, certifications, and seniority as compared to others doing substantially similar work. There is no guarantee an offer will be at the top of the posted range based on the salary analysis.
